Seminar on “Medieval Agsu Town Archaeological Explorations” Held in Agarkh Village Secondary School

The seminar entitled “Medieval Agsu Town Archaeological Explorations” was held on 18th December, 2015 in Agarkh Village secondary school named after Natig Mirzaliyev. The teacher and pupils of the school took part at the event.
The seminar was opened by the principal of the school, Rasim Huseynzade and introduced historian and archaeologist-scientist from Agsu, Fariz Khalilli to the participants. He noted that villages of Agarkh, Bozavand and Garabagli are located near Medieval Agsu Town, the village settlers coming to the region for the purpose of economy before the explorations, and rumors exist among the people. He said that schoolchildren regularly visit the region after the excavations.
PhD Fariz Khalilli, chairman of MIRAS Social Organization expressed his wish to hold the seminars in large schools of Agsu for the purpose of promotion and initiated with Agarkh school. He added that Agsu is one of the rich historical regions of Azerbaijan, unique artwares of antique age, Nargizava were revealed there, Mehravan town, one of central cities of early medieval age, and capital town of last medieval ages, Medieval Agsu Town are situated there. Fariz Khalilli dealt with archaeological excavations conducted by Agsu Archaeological Expedition since March 2010 under the guidance of Professor Gajar Jabiyev and spoke about ice-house, mosque, bath-complex and handicraft estate, water lines and stone-planked streets. Giving information about rulers like Nader shah, Fatali khan, Mustafa khan and others, also poets like Zulali, Hashimi, Aga Masih, Fariz Khalilli said the city was known as Agsu, Yeni Shamakhi, Jalilabad. Fariz Khalilli stating his wish about the schoolchildren’s preferring learn, travel and study invited the teachers to have lessons in conference hall of Medieval Agsu Town.
In the end the MIRAS Social Organization’s books were given to the school library.
