Youth in Conservation of Cultural Heritage 2014 (YOCOCU) Ended

International Conference YOCOCU- "Youth in Conservation of Cultural Heritage" 2014 co-arranged by Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Azerbaijan, MIRAS Social Organization in Support of Studying of Cultural Heritage, Italian Association of Conservation Scientists, ICCROM, Sapienza University of Italy and Antwerpen University of Belgium with support of National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan, the Council of State Support to Non-Governmental Organizations under the Auspices of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Agsu regional Executive Power in Agsu, Azerbaijan on 28-30 May, 2014 ended. Two-day event was attended by more than 100 professionals specialized in the field of study and protection of cultural heritage from 25 countries of the world. Over 70 presentations and web presentations were made during sessions “Textile and organic materials”, “Pigments and paintings”, “Stone”, “Cultural experiences”, “Metal, glass and ceramics”, “Archaeology and complex researches” and posters were shown.

On the second day of the event the representatives from Azerbaijan, Peru, Croatia, Italy, Lithuania, Germany, Turkey, Poland, Iran Islamic Republic, Russian Federation, Japan and Slovenia shared their experience on study, restoration, protection and conservation of monuments, as well as in the line of their promotion and development. Members of MIRAS, Doctor of Architecture, Agaselim Azizov made a report on “Harmony of history and environment in town-planning principles in Baku City; Nazmin Jafarova on “application and perspectives of eco-museum practice in Azerbaijan” and dedicated to current situation and expectations in this line.
The presentation prepared by PhD Fariz Khalilli, Arzu Soltan and Gulshan Huseynova on the basis of results of questionnaire and monitoring within the project “clean village-protection of ecological and ethnographic identity with participation of local communes and sustainable development” of MIRAS with financial support of the Council of State Support to Non-Governmental Organizations under the Auspices of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan was one of those. Interest and proposals of guests from Italy, Germany and Turkey were the vivid evidence of theme’s actuality. Young restorer and architect Ughur Giyasi’s wide presentation on the problems over restoration of architectural monuments in Azerbaijan, successful and unlucky experiences, caused discussions. The most remarkable point was that grown-ups, well-experiences experts applauded brave speech of Ughur, showed right way and supported him. Chairman of MIRAS Organization, Fariz Khalilli and YOCOCU founders Andrea Macchia and Simone Cagno presented souvenir, a carpet, YOCOCU symbol of Azerbaijan to Monica Alvarez de Buergo.
The organizers decided to send restorer and architect and young member of MIRAS Organization, Ughur Giyasi, for his interesting presentation to attend in ENVIMAT (Environment-Material Interaction, Preventive conservation of monuments and archaeological sites in the Mediterranean basin) Summer School.
Another notable moment in YOCOCU was Image Company’s award for the most interesting paper from Azerbaijan during YOCOCU. The director of the Company, producer, art critic Teymur Najafzade stated Nurida Huseynova, art-restorer of National Museum of History of Azerbaijan, member of Azerbaijan Union of Artists and member of MIRAS Organization is granted a prize for her presentation on “study, preservation and promotion of national garments”. She was proposed by the company to create Internet page on national garments free of charge.
All YOCOCU participants, organizers, volunteers and administrative staff were granted certificates, and memory photo was made. YOCOCU ended with friendship, sincerity and business atmosphere among the participants and created conditions for 5th YOCOCU edition in Madrid in 2016.
