20 January Tragedy Commemorated in Macedonia

Azerbaijani delegation of scholars which participated at “Ohrid –Vodici, 2015” on topic “Rethinking the Framework of Interdisciplinary cooperation between Cultural Heritage, Local Economic Development, Tourism and Media” had been on 20 January, 2015 in Kojajik Village of Macedonia where Ataturk abode is situated and visited memorial museum there.
Later event on commemoration of 20 January tragedy was held in Jupa Municipality where Kojajik village is included (only municipality which main population is Turks).
Deputy chief of Jupa Municipality, Munir Bastri opened the event. They commemorated the memories of 20 January tragedy victims with one-minute silence. Chairman of MIRAS Social Organization in Support of Studying of Cultural Heritage, Fariz Khalilli gave information about visit of Azerbaijani delegation to Macedonia and the perspectives of cultural relations of Azerbaijan and Macedonia. Deputy chief of National Television and Radio Council of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Professor Gafar Jabiyev delivered comprehensive report on “ 20 January tragedy: reasons, results and lessons”. Deputy Director of ANAS Institute of Architecture and Art, Prof. Dr. Kubra Aliyeva shared her memories on 20 January tragedy.
Chief of Jupa municipality, Ariyan Ibrahim stated his delight of Azerbaijanians’ arrival for the first time in this region where Turks inhabited mostly. He noted that Azerbaijan’s latest successes in the field of economy and large renovation work done in Baku are followed by settlers of their remote villages. He expressed his sorrow regarding Karabakh’s occupation by Armenian invaders and hope for this problem’s just solution in a short while. But despite of that the settlers of Jupa have less information about Azerbaijan. There is necessity for arrangement of mutual meetings and promotional works for this purpose.
Books and journals about Azerbaijan were given to the library of Jupa municipality in the end.
