Italy and Azerbaijan: New Education and Practice Opportunities Discussed

On 1-2 February 2015 rector of Calabria University of Italy, Professor Gino Mirocle Crisci, teachers of the Unviersity, Mauro Francesco La Russa and Andrea Macchia who participated at 1st International Youth Forum of Cultural Heritage and Tourism in Baku met with rector of Azerbaijan State University of Culture and Arts, Farah Aliyeva. The rector gave wide information on the university and educational activities. He underscored the University’s education opportunities with the best terms for bachelor, master and doctorates and free study of the students of foreign states. It was stated that practice is available in the University within scientific laboratories concerning conservation and restoration of cultural heritage. During the meeting there was noted that the University supported YOCOCU Agsu course and the first one was underway last year in Agsu, Azerbaijan. The urgency of active participation of students at 2015 YOCOCU Agsu school was taken an accent. Professor Farah Aliyeva shared wide information about Azerbaijan State University of Culture and Arts and said youth interest in conservation and restoration of cultural heritage grown and that they can collaborate in the future.

The guests later met with director of Institute of Archaeology and Ethnography of National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan (ANAS), Professor Maisa Rahimova and director of Institute of Architecture and Art, Professor Artegin Salamzade. During the meeting Professor Gino Mirocle Crisci gave information broadly on Calabria University and presented the books. He said they collaborate with chief of Agsu Archaeological Expedition, Professor Gafar Jabiyev and chairman of MIRAS Social Organization, Fariz Khalilli and analytical analyses of some potteryware displayed in medieval Agsu town done and interesting results were obtained. It was noted that analytical research is launched for protection and conservation of Mahravan Castle, where new archaeological explorations conducted, with special nanomaterials. Afterwards, Mauro Francesco La Russa shared detailed information on special program for students and young scientists’ studying in Calabria University free of charge and getting bachelor, Master and doctorate degrees. He invited ANAS doctorates to have practice course in Calabria University and join the program. Professor Maisa Rahimova said Institute of Archaeology and Ethnography maintains boarder relations with educational institutions and scientists of USA, Germany, France, Japan, Korea Republic and thereby stressing their interest in having relations with universities of Italy, including Calabria University. She stated they would appreciate the doctorates’ free practice and educational activities. The rector was presented books of Institute of Archaeology and Ethnography as gifts. Professor Artegin Salamzade shared information about activity directions of the Institute and the experience of the Institute in the field of conservation and restoration of cultural; heritage. He added that the Institute’s staff actively participated at the symposium in Italy. The guest was given books on architecture of Institute of Architecture and Art.
