Conservation, Restoration and Management of Archaeological Sites Second International YOCOCU School in Agsu Agsu, 5-9 October 2015

Course Description and Methodology. The course will adopt a collaborative and multidisciplinary approach and it is designed for students and young professionals involved in the conservation and management of archaeological sites. The focus will be on innovative and eco-friendly methods, from maintenance to treatments, applied to the conservation of ceramic and stone materials. The goal is to provide participants with a package of targeted knowledge, theoretical and empirical, that can be used from the very beginning. The workshop promotes a working knowledge of the most appropriate methods of restoration to address long-term management strategies. Through lectures, discussions, laboratory sessions, demonstrations and field exercises, participants will discuss both the fundamental theories of conservation and the recent advances in technology and research. The groups of students will be involved in field exercises in a real archaeological site. They will have the opportunity to be engaged in a working scenario that requires collaboration between various competences. The multidisciplinary approach is able to ensure that the most effective strategies and preservation solutions are realized. The content and structure of the course have been developed to face these topics encouraging the expertise of participants and stimulating an interdisciplinary approach for the preservation and enhancement of the Agsu site. The course is open to everyone, but it is focused on Azerbaijan students and young professionals. The activities will be open for thematic visits of young scholars for free, to promote the archaeological site and the conservation activities. The teachers of the course will be EU restorers, professionals and researchers expert in conservation/restoration. Preference will be given to individuals belonging to the existing YOCOCU network.
